Koh Phangan Island Lifestyle

At some point during you stay at Amaresa Resort your curiosity will get the upper hand over your blissful state of mind and you will want to explore the surroundings. A rental motorbike is the way to explore the island in the true Phangan style: adventurous and free. Besides that, there are taxi’s, minivan cars, and boat tours to take you around. Our Resort offers a shuttle service to the small village Haad Rin, which is a 15 minute walk away.

Koh Phangan is an island blessed with all the features a tropical island is supposed to have, and even more. It is the least commercial island compared to its siblings Koh Samui and Koh Tao. Remote and unspoiled beaches, dense forest, hills and waterfalls are the gems of Nature that can be found on the island.

Action packed island

Snorkeling, diving, canoeing or riding a water scooter are just a few of the options for the watersport lovers. An Thong National Marine Park is a protected group of islands about 2 hours away from Koh Phangan. It features coral reefs, limestone mountains, white-sand beaches, waterfalls and hidden caves and lakes. It makes up for a great 1 day trip.

Temple life and Yoga

The island was discovered about 600 years ago by a group of monks, who were impressed by the tranquil atmosphere. The spiritual heritage includes a number of temples around the island which can be visited. Wat Khao Tham is run entirely by donations and offers silent retreats.

A visit to Koh Phangan must include a visit to the North-West part, where the modern-age Yoga tribal community has settled around a plethora of Yoga schools. Sunset at the Zen beach with chanting and singing has become a ritual.

Night Market

Local citizens of Phangan and the visiting tourists spend the evening strolling around a shopping street or night market. The Saturday Night Market at the town of Thong Sala is an excellent place to shop for authentic souvenirs, taste local street and admire the skills of artisan handicrafts. This is the place where you will see people of all walks of life: sunburnt tourists mingling with local Thai and the tribal hippies.
